Hi there.

I found my solution to insomnia and much more when I re-discovered Audio-Visual Entrainment... also sometimes called light & sound therapy...

It was so effective (from 2-3 hours per night to 7-8 hours immediately when I started using it again) that I decided to make this my new career after having suffered greatly from the loss of my previous career following a serious road traffic accident in 2002.

The devices (DAVID PAL range) can be bought on line directly from the manufacturer Mind Alive in Canada. If you're in Ireland you can get one from myself.

These "gadgets" are basically what I call "Meditation in a Box" and can do much more than help you sleep; quick re-charge/power nap in 15 minutes any time... deep meditation... "inner mind" exploration and lucid dreaming etc. apart from getting you into the ZONE for sports or other focussed activities.

Sorry if this sounds like a sales pitch... it isn't... I'm currently too busy looking after our 3 young toddlers too have enough time to get fully back into my home based business activities :D

I have found over 95% of people that try a quick 15 minute session have immediate and genuinely powerful relaxation experiences.

There is so much more I could tell you about this but my kids need some dinner... the science etc. behind this technology and the devices themselves can be found at www.mindalive.com.

Just one more thing... you can get optional "glasses" with view holes, so you could have a session while at work in front of your PC. This can be great if you feel the need to keep focussed for long periods of time and find 15 cups of coffee a bit detrimental to your system...

I developed insomnia in my mid 40s. I spend ALL day online due to my work and my interests (and yes, I get out, walk, etc! You know what I mean!) My symptoms are that I can't slip into deep sleep because my brain keeps working on things it thinks it needs to do. It feels like overstimulation.

I have drastically cut back evening online activities, but when I travel away from internet connectivity, my sleep is definitely less disturbed.

I have tried all the things you suggested as well as meditation and yoga. I think the latter two are also very helpful in that the help me "clear my mind" (whatever that really is). But I suspect it is the visual stimulation/overstimulation from the screen that is at the root of my insomnia. No scientific data - just what I suspect.
